Living on Borrowed Time? Trade Ministry PS Ssali dropped as Accounting Officer over Corruption

Explosive revelations have rocked Ministry of Trade and Cooperatives as Permanent Secretary (PS) Geraldine Ssali has been abruptly removed from her role as the accounting officer amidst scandal that has sent shockwaves through public service.

He removal follows the Permanent Secretary and Secretary to the Treasury (PSST) Hon Ramathan Ggoobi’s letter to Finance Minister to immediately drop scandal ridden Ssali from the position of accounting officer.

In the letter dated 03rd October 2023 that the permanent secretary/Secretary to treasury wrote to the Ministry of Trade and co-operatives, the permanent Secretary Ramathan Ggoobi noted that following the resolutions of parliament on the the sectoral committee on Trade, Tourism, and Industry on investigations into the utilization of the supplementary budget for the financial year 2021/2022 to the ministry of Trade, Tourism, and Industry for the rent of new office premises.

He requested the minister of trade to nominate a suitable officer to execute the duties of the accounting officer pending investigations.
