It is overwhelming how much sad news is flying over different social media platforms, once a home of laughter and comedic memes. The second wave of the virus has taken a toll on everyone forcing the country back to lockdown in a bid to mitigate spread of the virus.
HR Michael Sekadde
Whereas lockdown might block out the virus, it has affected people mentally. A report by Uganda Bureau of Statistics indicates that 5 per cent of the respondents were clinically depressed. The incidence was found majorly in elderly respondents around 65 years of age and above. A significant number of respondents between the age of 44 and 54 years were also found to be clinically depressed on account of their employment status and negative changes in business incomes.

– Dorcas Muhwezi, MTN General Manager Customer Experience
We are back to lockdown and just like we saw in the first wave, businesses are now operating online. One thing covid has taught us, is that the internet is no longer a nice to have or a luxury. The Internet is a necessity. The internet is the place where customers window shop, purchase and air out views on products and services offered by companies. Make sure you have online presence.
Dorcas Muhwezi, MTN General Manager Customer Experience
Unlike the earlier days where customers sneakily wrote their views on paper and dropped them into suggestion boxes hoping that no one would recognize their handwriting, today, customers take to social media to publicly appreciate and also vent their frustration.

LG’s plans to sell iPhones at its Best Shop locations have been put on hold after a public outcry from small and medium-sized businesses. The South Korean government has a policy that is meant to shield smaller retailers by keeping giants like Samsung and LG from selling competing products at the stores they own.
The worry is that if they do, these larger retail locations will draw customers away from the smaller ones – and those are already quite vulnerable due to the pandemic.
Of course, Samsung wasn’t a fan of this plan either as it feared that the expanded availability of iPhones will threaten its domestic market share of 5G phones. LG has over 400 Best Shops around the country.
LG has some internal concerns too. The sale of Apple products will pull manpower...

Oil prices steadied after two days of losses amid uncertainty over supply after the collapse this week of talks among major producers that could potentially cause the current output agreement to be abandoned.
Brent crude oil futures edged higher by 2 US cents to $73.45 a barrel by 4.13am GMT after earlier falling to as low as $72.93. US West Texas Intermediate futures were down 10c, or 0.1%, at $72.10 a barrel.
Brent prices have fallen nearly 5% since Monday’s close after talks between oil cartel Opec and its allies, including Russia, known as Opec+, fell apart when de facto leader Saudi Arabia refused demands from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to raise its output under the group’s supply cut agreement.

Zimbabwe’s central bank on Tuesday announced the introduction of a new 50-dollar note, the country’s highest denomination, worth only around $0.60 in US currency.
Insufficient to pay even for a loaf of bread, the bill’s entry into circulation has revived memories of hyperinflation seen more than a decade ago in the southern African nation. As price growth spiralled out of control, denominations at the time mounted as high as a 100-trillion-dollar note. Award-winning journalist and government critic Hopewell Chin’ono scoffed at the new banknote, which at the unofficial black market exchange rate will be worth just $0.35 in US dollars. “It tells you something about inflation in your country if you need 3 notes of your highest currency denomination to buy a premium beer in a supermark...
Nana Akufo-Addo, Ghana's President
Ghana plans to issue up to $2 billion in green and social bonds by November, making it the first African country to sell debt to support development projects.
Ghana would become a leader in African social bond issuance, capitalizing on an instrument that has grown in popularity since the coronavirus pandemic, according to Bloomberg.
A green bond is a fixed-income instrument designed particularly to raise funds for climate and environmental projects. Because these bonds are usually asset-linked and backed by the issuing entity’s balance sheet, they normally have the same credit rating as the rest of the issuer’s debt obligations.
Only a few sovereigns, like Chile and Ecuador, have sold them so far. Despite having posted its lowest economi...
