UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Friday congratulated Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on the “excellent collaboration” between the British and Qatari Police and Armed Forces to ensure security at the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
In a telephone call, the British Premier welcomed the “strong” trade and investment relationship between the UK and Qatar, “built on solid economic foundations,” Downing Street said in a statement.
Sunak and Al Thani agreed to continue to develop new investment and cooperation opportunities “in the industries of the future”, both bilaterally and through a future trade agreement of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC).
Meanwhile, they have also discussed ways to deepen bilateral defense collaboration, stressing the importance of developing their partnership “in the face of global and regional threats, including Russia’s hostile and barbaric invasion of Ukraine.”
