KAMPALA – The Minister for Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan areas Betty Amongi has revealed that all charges imposed by taxi associations have been suspended for one month. She made the revelations while addressing the media on Wednesday, July 8 at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala. The directive that takes effect on Thursday, July 9 will not enable taxi associations withdraw the collected welfare fees held on their various accounts until the sector is regularised. “All taxi drivers being forced to pay the above fees are encouraged to report the cases of extra charges to KCCA Park Administrators or to the nearest Police Station,” she said. Police in Kampala has arrested former Makerere University vice-chancellor Prof. Venansius Baryamureeba for knocking a pedestrian dead and injuring another. The incident according to the deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire happened on Wednesday afternoon at Kibuli-Muyenga junction, Makindye Division in Kampala. “The vehicle registration number “U” being driven by Prof. Baryamureeba Venansius knocked two female pedestrians and a perimeter wall, killing one person on spot. KAMPALA — The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has announced it will switch off water supply in the city beginning Sunday , June 28, 8:00am to 5:00Pm as they conduct a system upgrade to improve water supply in the city. In a statement issued Friday June 26, the NSWC said the process is to enable the UMEME engineers undertake a routine maintenance at Ggaba substation to improve power supply reliability at Ggaba water works. “Subsequently, water production in all treatment plants, pumpage at all booster stations and supply networks within Kampala will be affected,” the NWSC said in a public notice.
