Kampala, Uganda --- A nurse working with International Hospital Kampala (IHK) has died after her husband chopped her to pieces in the presence of their children. IHK management today, Tuesday, confirmed the death of Violet Kakai which occured on Saturday.Kakai had worked with the hospital for ten years. In a message shared, the hospital described Kakai’s death as untimely. Our sources tell us Kakai had a bitter row with her husband, who out of rage got cut her into tiny pieces using a sharp knife. All this time, their young children were looking on. It’s not clear what caused the fight between the couple.

KAMPALA- The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has overtaken police in torturing Ugandans, according to the African Centre for Treatment and Rehabilitation of Torture Victims (ACTV) in its latest report on torture. During 2017-2018 period, the ACTV registered 600 cases of torture attributed to police and 443 cases committed by the army.However in 2018-19, the bulk of the torture cases shifted to the UPDF. The latest report shows UPDF committed 440 torture cases in Karamoja Sub-region compared to 14 cases by police. However in Kampala, the police led the 263 torture charts, with 263 cases compared to the 44 cases by UPDF.In Gulu District, police committed 154 cases and UPDF committed 75. Investigations into the death of Emmanuel Tegu, a third year veterinary student of Makerere University in Kampala City have intensified. Today, police carried out an intelligence led operation and arrested 10 suspects in connection to the death of Tegu. All the suspects are residents of Makerere University in Kampala.They are detained at Wandegeya Police Station pending interrogation.The suspects, whose identities will be disclosed after interrogation, are said to have participated in the mob action that led to the death of the student. There are other suspects who took off after receiving information of the death of the student, but our teams are pursuing them. SP Patrick Onyango

Uganda Police Force’s Albertine region spokesperson Julius Hakiza said the cases were recorded between March and May, 2020. The State House anti-corruption unit headed by Lt.Col.Edith Nakalema has arrested two men for allegedly grabbing and encroaching on President Yoweri Museveni’s land.
