Wood closes in on Haaland and Palmer for goals since Nuno’s arrival.
Chris Wood’s incredible season continued with a double in Nottingham Forest‘s emphatic win at Leicester City on Friday night.
The New Zealand striker scored his sixth and seventh goal in his ninth appearance of the campaign, more impressively is the company he is keeping since Nuno Espirito Santo took charge at the City Ground just before last Christmas.
Only Manchester City‘s Erling Haaland and Cole Palmer of Chelsea, with 23 and 22 respectively, have more Premier League goals than Wood‘s 18 over that period.
Praise from Nuno
Nuno, unsurprisingly, was full of praise for his striker in his post-match interview at Leicester.
“An amazing job from him,” Nuno said to Sky Sports after the match.
“Since we arrived he’s been very honest with us, he gives everything that he has to give on the pitch. It’s not only the amazing goals he scores, it’s the hard work, the voice in the dressing room, how he leads us on the pitch.
“Chris deserves these moments.”
In esteemed company
Wood’s double also saw him move joint-second in Forest’s list of all-time Premier League top scorers, with 22 goals. He is level with Stan Collymore and only two behind Bryan Roy.
Impressively, Wood has scored nine of Forest’s last 13 Premier League goals and seven of their 11 this season.
That means Wood has scored 69 per cent of Forest’s 2024/25 goals, which puts him above Ipswich Town‘s Liam Delap, with 67 per cent, as the player with the highest share of a team’s goals this season.
