Kampala – Police in Yumbe arrested six teachers of Nampita Secondary School and an invigilator sent to supervise the ongoing Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations in the same school.
According to Jennifer Kalule-Musamba the Principal Public Relations Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB), the group is charged with possession of unauthorised material and disturbance in an examination room.
The seven suspects include Julius Caeser Obbo, a teacher of Economics, Josephine Angukoru, a teacher of Biology, Boniface Ntibiringirwa, Godwin Wasswa, James Bamukabire , Emmanuel Okello, and Sadam Hussein, all teachers of Napita S.S. together with an invigilator, Bosco Oryema.
It is alleged that on Thursday October 19th, while examinations were underway. the suspects accessed the examination hall with power banks, smart phones and a laptop under the pretext of charging them, an act which was very suspicious to the scout, causing her to report to police.
Initial investigations indicate that the smart phone for one of the teachers, Julius Obbo, contained answers for the biology practical examination.
While addressing a joint press briefing at police headquarters in Nagulu, Kampala, Kalule said the cases are being handled by police.
Meanwhile, two Special Needs Education (SNE) Candidates, died during the course of the week.
According to Kalule, the two candidates were both sickle cell sicklers from different schools. One of the candidates, Edwin Wamutale, was a student of St. Noa Mawagali SS, Jinja and the other Celine Anne Namuwase, was a student of St. Andrew Kaggwa, Gombe High School in Kawaala, near Kampala.
Also UNEB registered a candidate who delivered a baby girl on Thursday October 19th, 2023. Kalule says
fortunately the candidate did not have a paper that day and has since resumed writing her examinations.
Today Monday 23, 2023 marked the beginning of the 2nd week in the conduct of the UCE examination.
The candidates are currently writing physics Paper 1 to be followed by Physics paper 2 in the afternoon.
