Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah has spoken out about his decision to accept England’s call-up as he wants to play for his home country of Ghana.
Nketiah, who had expressed interest in the Ghanaian national team in the past, had a series of discussions with representatives of both countries. Last year, he openly mentioned that he was considering playing for the Black Stars.
Despite his impressive performances with England at youth level, his prospects of representing the senior team looked uncertain. Nevertheless, after some consideration, Nketiah chose to represent England by accepting his very first call-up.
“I aspired to play here and, as I said, once the call-up came down, it was very difficult to turn it down. I think that’s the natural progression for me at this point,” Nketiah told a news conference.
Nketiah is now ready to make his debut for England. His decision to represent that country over Ghana marked an important moment in his international career.
