The England international was in brilliant form early in the season as he scored three goals in his first four appearances of the season after returning from shoulder surgery.

However, he scored just two goals in his 28 matches since that early purple patch and there has been a lot of criticism of him and his fellow Red Devils team-mates.

How journalists stitched up Ten Hag to make Klopp and Guardiola headlines

The signings of Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho had given Man Utd fans hope that they would challenge for the Premier League title this season.

But having sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in November and appointed Ralf Rangnick as interim boss, Man Utd limped to a sixth-placed finish and ended the season 13 points behind fourth-placed Tottenham and 35 points adrift of champions Man City.

Mourinho has been proven right about Man United

Rashford fell out of favour under Rangnick and was weighing up whether to stay at the club but the Daily Telegraph now claim that he ‘wants to stay’ and ‘is expected to undergo some intense warm weather training in the US next month as he bids to hit the ground running under new manager Erik ten Hag’.

The Daily Telegraph add:

‘Bayern Munich are believed to be keeping an eye on Rashford’s situation in the event other targets do not come off but the player has set his sights on winning back his place at United under Ten Hag and rediscovering his best form after the worst season of his career.

‘Rashford is expected to travel to the US where he will be put through his paces during a working holiday next month before he returns for the start of pre-season with United on June 27.’

Meanwhile, new Man Utd boss Ten Hag accepts it will take time to turn the club around despite having grand plans.

“I said this is the project to bring Man United back on top, but also we have to accept the current situation we are in,” Ten Hag said in his first press conference.

“First of all, Man United belong in the Champions League, so that will be the first target.”
