The President of Uganda his excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has pledged full support to the management of the Karamoja Peace and Technology university (KAPATU), this as they were launching the site and opening of classes in Karamoja-Kotido region. The ground breaking event gathered a number dignitary, including the clergy, politicians, locals, the Ambassador of Turkey Mehmet Fatih AK among others.
Through a letter read by the right hon Amama Mbabazi who was once a Prime Minister of Uganda stated that, education has always been one of the most powerful tools for transformation so the establishment of (KAPATU) stands as a long ancient effort to yield human capital that is needed by Karamoja for general peace, sustainable development and meaning full participation in the nations prosperity.
He further said that, this is not simply a development but a land mark in Uganda’s journey and a turning point for Karamoja and will provide economic growth, enterprise improve health, nutrition and community wellbeing.
“Who of you here ever dreamt that Karamoja will have its own University” Amama asks the crowd.
The principle technical advisor of Karamoja Peace and Technology university (KAPATU) Dr. Robert Limlim says that the University will handle the various peace challenges they have been facing with neighboring armed Turkana, South Sudan and Nyangato from Ethiopia who are also associated with conflicts.
“Programs like mind set change transformation, education, peace promotion suitable and sustainable fall through about peace so with the University in place it becomes a means to achieve economic development” Dr. Robert assures the country.
Dr Limlim adds that it is now time to take education to the people not to take people to education that is why they are building the gap in the northern region to see that also not only people in this region are legible for the university courses, but also those in the areas of Ethiopia, South Sudan and Kenya.
The Karamojong Parliamentary group has been commended for the tireless efforts in erecting this university, these led by the, NRM National vice chairperson in Karamoja also an ex-official, Lokii John Baptist member of Parliament Matheniko county in Moroto district.
Hon has called upon the people in this area to rally behind the President of Uganda come 15th of January 2026 and vote him overwhelming.
The vice chancellor Professor Annet Kyezabu the academic affairs has committed to serving the community with quality education.
While breaking the news to the country earlier, Ambassador Phillip Idro the principal advisor and head of security at the University said that the newly established university of Karamoja, Peace and Technology is the first of its kind in the area and gifted with 27 square kilometer of land where they are situated and this is going to enable them carry out various activities.
This University is a private entity which focuses on peace promotion, so with the stable country, that is why the proprietors have put this in place to ensure that there is permanent and sustainable peace in the region of Karamoja.
