The Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Uganda, Abbas Byakagaba, recently met with the Ethiopian Ambassador to Uganda, H.E. Etsegenet Bezabih Yinemu, to discuss ways to strengthen regional and international collaboration in policing. Their talks focused on working together through organizations such as the Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (EAPCCO), INTERPOL, the African Union (AU), and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).
During the meeting, IGP Byakagaba emphasized the Uganda Police Force’s commitment to cooperating with other countries and supporting initiatives that address security challenges affecting the region. He highlighted the importance of joint efforts in fighting cross-border crime and improving overall safety for citizens.
The discussion also recognized the strong relationship between the Ethiopian community in Uganda and the Uganda Police Force. IGP Byakagaba expressed appreciation for this positive interaction, noting that maintaining trust and collaboration with immigrant communities is key to effective policing.
Officials from both sides agreed to continue fostering partnerships that enhance security, share intelligence, and strengthen law enforcement practices across the region. The meeting reflects Uganda’s commitment to regional peace and cooperation with neighboring countries.
By engaging in such dialogues, the Uganda Police Force aims not only to enhance local security but also to contribute to broader international efforts in tackling crime and promoting safety in East Africa.
