Kampala, Uganda: The Electoral Commission (EC) has officially released the updated register of political parties legally recognized in Uganda, confirming the entities cleared to operate and participate in the 2026 general elections.
The register, published in line with the Political Parties and Organisations Act, outlines the parties that meet legal requirements such as updated offices, leadership structures, and official contacts. The EC stressed that only these parties are authorized to carry out political activities ahead of the highly anticipated polls.
According to the register, Uganda now boasts more than 25 recognized political parties. These include the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), opposition giants National Unity Platform (NUP), Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Democratic Party (DP), and Uganda People’s Congress (UPC).
