The register, published in line with the Political Parties and Organisations Act, outlines the parties that meet legal requirements such as updated offices, leadership structures, and official contacts. The EC stressed that only these parties are authorized to carry out political activities ahead of the highly anticipated polls.

According to the register, Uganda now boasts more than 25 recognized political parties. These include the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), opposition giants National Unity Platform (NUP), Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Democratic Party (DP), and Uganda People’s Congress (UPC).

Also on the list are Justice Forum (JEEMA), Alliance for National Transformation (ANT), National Economic Empowerment Dialogue (NEED), and smaller outfits such as the Republican Women and Youth Party (RWYP), Forum for Integrity in Leadership (FIL), and Uganda Federal Alliance (UFA), among others.

The EC noted that the register, which also provides official addresses and leadership particulars for each political party, is a critical measure of transparency and accountability as Uganda heads into the 2026 polls.
