The Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, has summoned Members of Parliament from Acholi, Lango, and West Nile sub-regions for a meeting on Friday at Parliament.

The meeting, according to knowledgeable sources, was initially planned for Thursday, but the two plenary sittings chaired by Among on the same day in the morning and afternoon made the postponement inevitable.

kma updates spoke to several MPs coming from the above sub-regions, and they all confirmed the scheduled meeting.

“Yes, I got an invitation for a meeting with the Rt. Hon. Speaker that was originally scheduled for Thursday but was later told it would be on Friday. I am, however, not going to attend because I am heading to the constituency,” said an NRM MP from West Nile.

When contacted, Chris Obore, the Parliament’s Director of Communications and Public Relations, said he was not aware but quickly added that it would not be unusual.

“I am not aware of the meeting, but usually parliamentary groups ask for such meetings to discuss issues affecting their areas. There is nothing unusual,” said Obore.

This website understands that President Yoweri Museveni, who is also the chairman of the ruling NRM party, is going to convene the party caucus immediately after the budget process.

The developments surrounding the sanctioning of Speaker Among by the United Kingdom over corruption allegations have caused anxiety in the NRM.

“The number 3 in the country’s leadership hierarchy being sanctioned complicates our working relations with the rest of the world,” said an NRM leader.

The U.K. sanctioned Among and two former ministers, Goretti Kitutu and Agnes Nandutu, who had, interestingly, just been dropped from the Cabinet, signaling that the appointing authority knew what was coming.

Amos Lugolobi, the State Minister of Finance, who is facing the same corruption charges in court, was never dropped from Cabinet and captivatingly not sanctioned by the U.K
