Police and army spent the better part of yesterday Monday at former National Unity Platform party offices in Kamwokya searching the premises with suspicion there were illegal military gears and outfits.

These later stormed the home of Makindye West MP Derrick Nyeko where they confiscated his jungle boots and overalls which they say belongs to the military and counter terrorism police.

Speaking to media after the operation, Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson Patrick Onyango revealed that the security agencies have launched operations to arrest and confiscate any military like attire and outfits won by NUP supporters. The army in 2019 through a gazette said the Red Beret belongs to UPDF and whoever puts it on, does so illegally.

Onyango also said they only started with Kamokya and MP Nyeko’s home but they will extend the operations to different places. He also revealed that hon Nyeko Derrick was also arrested after stockings, boots and overalls were found at his home.

When NUP moved to the Makerere-Kavule Secretariat, the party revealed that their former headquarters in Kamwokya would be their Party Leadership Institute.
