The Uganda U17 Women’s National Team, fondly known as the Teen Cranes, is off to Lusaka, Zambia ahead of their crucial FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers (Third Round) encounter on Sunday, May 12th. The team departed Friday, May 10th at 4:00 Am aboard Uganda Airlines.

The Teen Cranes will take on Zambia at the third round of the Qualifiers, the first leg slated for 12th May 2024 at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka, Kickoff at 12:30 pm Local time (1:30 pm EAT) while the return leg will be played on 17th May 2024 at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

The team, led by Head Coach Sheryl Botes, has been intensively preparing for the past nine days at a residential camp in Kisaasi.

Coach Botes expressed her confidence in the final squad selected. “We’ve had a good run in our preparations, and I’m pleased with the commitment and progress shown by the players.” She stated.

The team played a friendly match against the Misingi Soccer Academy U15 Boys team at the iconic Muteesa II stadium-Wankulukuku, which provided a valuable opportunity to fine-tune their tactics and showcase their skills ahead of the qualifiers.

The Teen Cranes have been working diligently under Coach Botes’ guidance, and the upcoming fixtures against Zambia represent a significant opportunity for Uganda’s young football talent to shine on the international stage and advance towards the U17 Women’s World Cup.

The travelling squad consists of 18 players, including goalkeepers Nakiirya Lillian and Adeke Angella, defenders Namirimu Faridah and Natooro Desire Katisi, midfielders Aujat Dorine and Namataka Mariam, and forwards including Nabukenya Agnes and Kabene Sylvia, among others.

The journey to Lusaka is pivotal for the Teen Cranes as they aim to secure passage to the next stage of the U17 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers. With their determination, skill, and teamwork, they are poised to make Uganda proud on the international stage.

The winner of this tie will progress to the next round of the U17 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers.
