ODM Appoints 9-Member Disaster Response Team

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) under the leadership of Raila Odinga on Thursday, May 9, appointed a committee to complement the national government’s response to the flood crisis.

Making the announcement, ODM stated that the party stood together with the victims of the flood disaster in the country.

“As a response to the National Flooding Crisis the ODM Party has established a 9-member Disaster Response Team to coordinate a response and relief efforts to the ongoing crisis,” a statement from ODM read.

The members are;  Eddy Gicheru, Nasra Nanda, Peter Imwatok, Mishi Mboko, Hamida Kibwana, Abbas Khalif, Catherine Omanyo, Benson Musungu, and James Nyikal.

Nyanza which is Raila’s stronghold will be represented by Gicheru who is the current Migori senator and James Nyikal from Seme Constituency.

Mishi Mboko who is the Likoni Member of Parliament will lead the committee’s efforts from the Coast region.

Nairobi will be represented by Nasra (MCA), Imwatok (Majority Leader) and Khalif (MCA).

Omanyo is the Woman Representative for Busia County while Musungu is on the committee by virtue of being youth director.

Raila named the committee days after he remarked that the party would lead in mobilising funds for victims affected by floods.

In his message to ODM supporters, Raila stated that various leaders within the party had already put in motion fundraising events.

ODM is seemingly leading a parallel mobilisation drive to that of the Azimio la Umoja coalition which has also proposed a similar initiative.

Speaking on Wednesday, Wiper Leader and Azimio Principal Kalonzo Musyoka had asked Kenyans to fundraise to ensure flood victims received more than the Ksh10,000 being advanced by the national government.

Despite Raila being the Azimio coalition leader, he was conspicuously missing from the presser.
