On Wednesday this week, at least 40 primary seven teachers from several schools within Nakaseke District were forced by Mr Kiwanuka to sit for the 2023 PLE examinations at Nakaseke Technical Institute after their pupils failed the recently released PLE 2023 results.

Now following a complaint raised by the Nakaseke Central MP, Hon Allan Mayanja (NUP), the Speaker of parliament wants the Ministry of Education to explain under which law and procedure the teachers were subjected to the assessment.

Mayanja (MP Nakaseke Central) told parliament on Friday, March 15, 2024, that some teachers had approached him complaining about the test they had been subjected to and branded it as disrespectful.

“The Minister of Education should come and explain: how is it (the policy) implemented? Some teachers are approaching me, saying they are being disrespected in line with that. The Minister of Education needs to explain, after these examinations, what next,” he said.

The Nakaseke MP wondered if those who passed the test were to be promoted, and she also asked what the fate of those who failed was.

John Muyingo, Minister of State for Higher Education, said he was shocked to learn of Kiwanuka’s actions in the media and said a team from the ministry is in Nakaseke trying to investigate the matter.

“As a ministry, we were shocked to learn this from the media, and because we know Nakaseke Local Government isn’t an official examination body, we have sent our team on the ground to find out what is exactly happening,” he said.
