The Speaker of parliament Anita Annet Among has eulogized the passing on of the former Makindye West MP Hon Hajj Hussein Kyanjo, whom she described as the distinguished lawmaker who set the bar high.
The speaker in her message through her twitter account noted that Hajj set the bar for legislative excellence and leaves a legacy of a distinguished lawmaker, a unifying factor and a leader who exhibited integrity.
She sympathized with his family, friends and the people of Makindye West, Kampala, and Uganda at large.
Hajji Kyanjo who represented the people of Makindye West in the eighth and nineth parliament, has been sick for some years and has been in and out of hospital died today morning at Kibuli hospital.

 

Parliament has announced the death of former Makindye West MP Hajj Hussein Kyanjo. He died this morning at Kibuli Muslim Hospital ending his more than 10 years illness.

Kyanjo’s health problems started in 2011 when he had traveled to Johannesburg South Africa and two days into the trip realised that he was struggling to speak.

He was examined but no problem was found untill he visited a hospital in Iran where he was diagnosed with a disease called Dystonia. It is explained as  involuntary muscle contractions that cause repetitive or twisting movements.Dystonia may affect one or more parts of the body and sometimes the entire body. The condition can be mild or severe.

Doctors told him the cause of the disease could be; by inheritance, from a serious accident or poison. In an interview with a local news paper, Kyanjo revealed that there was no history of such a disease in his family, he has not suffered an accident hence leaving poisoning as the only probable option.

For years, the disease cripple the eloquent Kyanjo’s speech and worked on a battery to maintain his speech.

Burrial arrangements are yet to be issued.

The former Member of Parliament for Makindye West in Kampala Hussein Kyanjo has died.

The former vocal legislator passed on on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at Kibuli Hospital in Kampala.

Kyanjo, breathed his last after a protracted battle with a long-term illness.

The somber news reverberated across Uganda, leaving citizens in shock and sorrow, as they remember a man who devoted his life to public service and fighting for the rights of the people.

Hussein Kyanjo’s journey into politics was a reflection of his unwavering commitment to social justice and equality.

Born into a humble family in the early 1960s, he experienced firsthand the struggles of the marginalized and underprivileged.

These experiences shaped his worldview and instilled in him a determination to bring about positive change for the disenfranchised.

Kyanjo’s political career began in the late 1990s when he contested and won the Makindye West parliamentary seat.

From that moment onwards, he became a prominent voice in Ugandan politics, advocating for transparency, accountability, and the protection of human rights.

His fiery speeches in parliament resonated with the masses and earned him the reputation of being a fearless and principled leader.

Throughout his tenure as a lawmaker, Kyanjo tackled various pressing issues, such as poverty alleviation, education reform, and healthcare improvements.
