Twenty Journalists have completed SOMA organized training program in Adado City, Galmudug State

 

Mogadishu, Saturday, June 3, 2023: Twenty journalists have received certificates of attendance after completing a three- day training workshop on reporting public social services interest held at Adado city, Galmudug State from May 30, 2023 to June 1, 2023

The training was part of series of trainings planned for the Somali journalist implemented by SOMA with the support of International Media Support (IMS/FOJO).

The main purpose of the training workshop was to improve the capacities of journalists and editors in reporting public service including humanitarian media content.

The twenty journalists consisting of reporters and editors from various media sectors operational in the cities of Adado, Dhuusamareeb, Abudwaq, , Guriel, , Galkacyo and Galdogob in the regional states of Puntland and Galmudug were the key participants in the capacity building program.

The key courses covered during the 3- day training course were: The humanitarian principles- Defining Humanitarian Response, Information Saves Lives, and Communication is Aid, Disaster-Affected Communities, Key Concepts in Humanitarian Response, Key Definitions: Natural Disasters and Humanitarian Journalist.

In his closing remarks, Mohamed Osman Makaran, the Secretary General of Somali Media Association (SOMA) commended the journalists for benefiting from the training and advised them to practically apply what they have learned at their respective media stations.

Some of the participants in the reporting public social service training workshop mentioned that they have taken advantage of the training program in both theory and practical praising the facilitators for their smooth facilitation of the training program.

 

 

The participants have pledged to share what they gained with their colleagues at the media houses they came from.

With the three- day training program, the Somali Media Association (SOMA) has intended to upgrade the skills of the Somali journalists, especially reporting public social services including humanitarian media content.

In conclusion, the journalists participating in the training workshop on reporting public social services interest have received attendance certificates presented to them by Mohamed Osman Makaran, SG of the Somali Media Association (SOMA).
