Oleksandr Usyk’s fight against Tyson Fury is the most hotly anticipated boxing match of 2023. And with good reason.

It will be a fight for the title of undisputed heavyweight champion. Both men are undefeated in their professional careers. 53 combined pro boxing wins. Combined weights of over 220kg. It will be a clash of giants, even if Fury does call Usyk a middleweight from time to time.

But maybe Fury has a point, because in the latest picture that Usyk uploaded to his Twitter on Wednesday, he is looking remarkably different.

And we don’t just mean the fact that he now has a full head of hair.

What is the latest on Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk?

Last week, boxing fans got reports that a fight between Usyk and Fury was close to being agreed upon, with Fury’s co-promoter Frank Warren telling talkSPORT that the fight was in advanced negotiations.

Warren said that the fight would take place at the end of April, either in the UK or in Saudi Arabia.

“The fight will take place 100 per cent the last Saturday in April,” Warren said. “Where it takes place I genuinely think will be determined within the next six or seven days maximum.

“If we can’t do what we’re being asked to do with Tyson and Usyk [in Saudi Arabia], then the fight will take place in the UK.”

Well, it has now been seven days since that interview, so fingers crossed that fans get some news soon.

Usyk certainly seems to think the fight will go ahead, uploading a picture to social media with the caption: “I’m here @Tyson_Fury.”

But, the Ukrainian fighter looks remarkably different.

When fans think of Usyk they think of a 100kg man with a shaved head and a death stare, but while the stare might still be there, the other two variables have changed.

But forget about the fact that Usyk suddenly has long-ish hair. More importantly, he looks much smaller than 100kg.

We are not sure if he is planning to be lighter for Fury than he was for his two fights against Anthony Joshua, or if he is planning to pack on the muscle soon, but Fury will certainly have the size advantage.

While the majority of comments are from fans who cannot contain their excitement ahead of the fight, some are not convinced that Uysk has the size to get the job done against Fury.

One said: “No disrespect but you’re a middleweight, great fighter but just not a heavyweight. No way you’re currently at 91kg. Which means you will just add weight before the weight in. And then cut….. there should be a rule around weight and staying consistent 4 weeks before the fight.”

“If a guy that size can beat Tyson Fury then the game is a gone,” another replied under talkSPORT boxing editor Michael Benson’s quoted tweet.

“Just would turn in to a technical game, he’s an amazing middleweight. But he can’t physically knock a true heavy weight out they should change the rule. Dodging a pop shots isn’t fun to watch.”

“Why are you looking so thin? Weird to see,” “Usyk is mustard but he’s nowhere near big enough. Fury gonna bully him all over the gaff,” “Too small for Fury,” “Usyk looking like he’s fighting at 160 lol,” “Looking way too small ngl” and “Where’s the other half of him. Looks like a MW” were just a handful of other replies.

Even if he looks a little on the small side, you would be a fool to doubt a man with 20 wins from 20 professional fights who is also seen by many as the best active pound-for-pound fighter.

Let’s all hope that the fighters agree to a fight at some point soon.
