Scribes body vote Cricket Cranes for the month of September

THE Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) will hold their general elections on November 26, the association president Patrick Kanyomozi announced on Monday.

Speaking at the sports journalists’ monthly assembly at Imperial Hotel, Kanyomozi who ends his four-year two-term reign at the helm of the association leadership said an official communication detailing the election road map will be released soon.

“The constitution gives a notice of 21 days but I am sure we shall have this notice not less than a month to the elections. All details will be there,” Kanyomozi promised adding that those intending to vie for the four elective positions may start campaigning.

The positions of president, general secretary, treasurer and organizing secretary will fall vacant and will be up for grabs. The vice president is appointed by the president.

Johnson Were is the current general secretary while Lurian Lubuulwa and Solomon Saka are treasurer and organizing secretary, respectively.

Former president Sabiiti Muwanga cautioned members willing to contest to ensure that they are conversant with the roles associated with the posts they are vying for.

“We want to lift USPA to another level so we must get people who are competent in the positions they hold,” Muwanga advised.

Cricket Cranes beat three others to September’s accolade

At the same assembly, the national men’s cricket team, the Cricket Cranes garnered 245 points to win the USPA sports personality of the month accolade for the month of September. This was in recognition of their excellent display in the Africa Cup in South Africa where they defied odds to win the continental trophy.

The Cricket Cranes came ahead of the Uganda para badminton team (200), the national Rugby7s (175) and the national boxing team, the bombers (125).
