Melvin also asked about suggestions that President Biden would team up with Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) for a bipartisan presidential ticket in 2024, which stemmed from New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman earlier this week.
Harris said she didn’t read the article, adding, “I really could care less about the high-class gossip on these issues.”
Friedman also floated a ticket with Harris and Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah), pondering if the United States should borrow a page from the Israeli-Palestinian arena, where, he wrote, a diverse national unity government has recently been formed.
Harris said in the interview broadcast on NBC’s “Today” show that she is more involved with issues such as affordable childcare to Americans.
“The American people sent us here to do a job and right now there’s a lot of work to be done and that’s my focus. Sincerely,” she said.
Harris has previously insisted that the 2024 election is not on her mind. In a Wall Street Journal interview published last month, she said she doesn’t even “think” about whether Biden will run 2024 or talk to him about it.
The White House has repeatedly said Biden — who would be 81 on the next presidential Election Day — intends to run again.
The president, in an interview last month, also said he plans to run for reelection in 2024, assuming he’s still in good health.
