Brentford’s Yoane Wissa in court after woman ‘threw acid at him and tried to kidnap daughter’
Brentford star Yoane Wissa will appear in a French court this week for the trial of a woman who attacked him with acid.
The DR Congo forward is expected to attend two days of a four-day trial that began near Lorient on Tuesday.
The trial has already heard allegations that the accused woman threw acid into Wissa’s face before seeking to kidnap his newborn daughter during the attack in 2021.
The woman, named only as Laetitia P, faces charges of attempted murder, child kidnap and attempted kidnap – and if found guilty she could be sentenced to 30 years behind bars.
She is accused of also attacking another woman in the town of Vannes a day later before kidnapping her baby.
Wissa, 28, required emergency facial surgery after the attack with initial fears for his eyesight. It occurred just a month before he moved to West London. And lawyer Karim Morand-Lahouazi said: “Yoane is still suffering the after-effects of this attempted kidnap and attack.
“He has done everything since then to show that he is fine. He is also trying to perform to the best of his ability in his everyday job.
“And nowadays he and his wife feel secure in England. They feel they are safe from danger. Thankfully he did not lose his eyesight, and it was only thanks to his reaction that his daughter was not taken away.
“He was signed off work for 10 days, but you don’t just go back into training on day 11. He needed a significant time to recover. Things were not easy for him at the start of this matter.”
Wissa is currently the subject of intense transfer speculation with Nottingham Forest having a bid of £22m rejected out of hand earlier this week. He recently became Brentford’s top scorer in the Premier League.
