The parliamentary Defense Committee has finally agreed to proceed with by interfacing with officials from the Ministry of Defense without the UPDF CDF General Muhoozi Kayinerugaba.
This has been after a long internal consultation amongst the committee members after suspending the committee for 10mins.
Previously the committee had objected to scrutinize the financial year budget 2025/26 of the Ministry without the appearance of Gen Muhoozi which had led to the halt of the meeting twice.
However after a closed meeting btn the committee led by the chairperson Wilson Kajwengye together with the Minister for Defense Jacob Oboth, it was agreed that the Minister puts all concerns of the committee Members before the CDF Gen Muhoozi and also committed to request him appear before the committee in person at a later stage.
Meanwhile the Ministry of Defense has revealed before the committee that during the half year performance budget of the financial year 2024/25, 1.8trillion shillings has so far been released out of the total 4.7trillion shillings budgeted for the Ministry for the whole financial year.
The Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Rosette Byengoma said that out of the first released 1.8trillion shs, only 1.7trilliin has been utilized.
She however expressed challenges on the low budget of on development and African Union Transition Mission in Somalia- ATMIS.
