Maiden MoU Between Pakistan and Uganda, (16-17 January, 2025)
As part of the Government’s Engage Africa Policy, Ambassador Hamid Asghar Khan, Additional Foreign Secretary visited Uganda on 16-17 January, 2025 for the signing of the MoU on Bilateral Political Consultations (BPC) between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan and Uganda. During the visit the Additional Foreign Secretary called on the Hon. Oryem Henry Okello, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs on 16th January, 2025 and discussed matters of mutual interest between the two countries.
On 17th January, 2025 the Additional Foreign Secretary called on Hon. Gen Odongo Jeje Abubakher, Minister of Foreign Affairs who welcomed the Additional Foreign Secretary and lauded the signing of the MoU for BPC between the two countries.
Following the signing of the MOU, the inaugural session of the BPC was held. The two sides were respectively led by Ambassador Hamid Asghar Khan, Additional Foreign Secretary and Ambassador Charles Ssentongo, Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uganda. A broad range of topics were discussed including trade, investment, business opportunities, agriculture, training and education, healthcare, defence cooperation and tourism.
The two sides also expressed satisfaction at cooperation between the two friendly countries at multilateral fora. Pakistan’s election to the United Nations Security Council and the need for aligning positions on Security Council matters came into focus. It was resolved that business delegations would be exchanged between the two sides in 2025. The positive role and contribution of 10,000 strong Pakistani diaspora was also praised.
Ugandan side briefed about the investment opportunities offered by the Ugandan Government.
The two sides agreed to hold second session of BPC in Islamabad early next year.
