25 foreign nationals detained during pro-EU protests in Georgia to be deported

TBILISI, Georgia

Georgia on Saturday decided to deport 25 foreign nationals arrested during protests that began on Nov. 28, 2024, following the suspension of the country’s EU membership negotiations.

In a statement, the Georgian Interior Ministry announced that individuals from various countries were taken in custody by police during the ongoing demonstrations.

The detainees were issued administrative fines by the court and 10 of the 25 foreign nationals have already left the country, according to the ministry.

The protests, sparked by the government’s decision to suspend EU membership talks for four years, have continued for 38 days and show no signs of slowing down.
