Nordland Hospital has declared an emergency following the tragic accident in Hadsel, Norway, with an estimated 60-70 people on board the vehicle at the time of incident
A bus carrying 70 people has crashed on Boxing Day, with fatalities reported after it ended up in water.
The exact number of people killed has not been revealed at this time, but Nordland Hospital has declared an emergency following the smash in Hadsel in Norway. According to police there were many passengeirs onboard. Thankfully, reports have claimed that emergency responders have pulled some survivors from the wreckage. Ørjan Delbekk at HRS Northern Norway to VG said that around 60-70 people were involved in the incident. It is understood that the bus ended up in a lake called Åsvatnet.
Because of this, the damage to the bus is also understood to be unclear due to parts of it also being submerged underwater. Meanwhile, rescue helicopters have been dispatched from Tromsø and Bodø. Additionally, 9–10 ambulances from Narvik and Sør-Troms have also been sent to the scene.
The accident happened at about 1.30pm local time (12.30pm GMT) in the Hadsel district on Norway’s northwestern coast. The bus came off the roads and ended up partially in a body of water, according to public broadcaster NRK. Emergency services are currently on the scene to handle the situation, and investigations into the cause of the accident are underway.
