Allu Arjun arrest live updates: Allu Arjun likely to be released from jail tomorrow, says top Hyderabad cop

Allu Arjun, currently seen in Pushpa 2, was arrested in connection with the stampede incident at Hyderabad’s Sandhya Theatre, which resulted in the death of a woman. He was allegedly taken to the Chikkadapally police station in Hyderabad for further questioning. The actor was granted interim bail by the High Court.

On December 4, a massive crowd gathered at Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad to see Allu Arjun, resulting in a tragic stampede. Revathi, a 39-year-old woman, died due to asphyxiation, and her 8-year-old son was hospitalised. Following a complaint from her family, police registered a case on December 5 against Allu Arjun, his security team, and the theatre’s management for negligence that contributed to the incident.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Task Force) Srinivas said that Telgu actor Allu Arjun may be released tomorrow.

Despite expectations, Allu Arjun remains in Chanchalguda Jail, with officials indicating that his release today seems unlikely. Reports suggest that the bail order copies have not yet been uploaded online. As the chances of his release diminish, Allu Arjun may have to spend the night in jail. Authorities have reportedly prepared a Class-1 barrack for his stay.

Speaking about Allu Arjun’s arrest, Ravi Kishan told ANI, ” It is very unfortunate. He is my good friend and co-actor. You are treating a national award-winning actor like this.

It is a black day for all actors and the film industry.  The Congress government there should answer. This matter seems to be personal ans should be investigated. The government should be held accountable. ”

After Allu Arjun’s arrest in connection with the stampede case, Sandhya Theatre management’s permission letter seeking police deployment surfaced on the internet. Now the Telangana Police has reacted to the viral letter. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Zone, Hyderabad City said, “Clarification regarding the letter being circulating in media addressed by Sandhya Cine Enterprise 70 MM to ACP Chikkadpally requesting bandobust on 04/05-12-2024 in connection with release of Pushpa-2. We receive a lot of requests for bandobust citing visits by some political personalities, film celebrities, religious programs etc., However it is beyond our resources to provide bandobust for every event.”

Pushpa 2 opened to a staggering Rs 294 crore gross on its first day worldwide. The film’s mixed reviews did not affect its box office performance. Additionally, the actor’s arrest and subsequent bail controversy are expected to have little to no impact on the film’s earnings.

The husband of the woman who died during Pushpa 2 premiere, Bhaskar, has stated he does not blame Allu Arjun for the tragic incident. Speaking to reporters on Friday, Bhaskar said he was willing to withdraw his case.

“Allu Arjun is not at fault for attending the screening. I am ready to withdraw my case,” he remarked. Bhaskar also mentioned that the police did not inform him of Arjun’s arrest; he found out through news reports.

Actor Vivek Oberoi stood in solidarity with Allu Arjun and defended him. In a long note, the Prince actor wrote, “While any loss of precious life is painful and should be avoided, is it fair to arrest Allu Arjun for this mishap?”

Another excerpt from his post read, “I leave you all with a question: If this same accident had happened at a campaign rally of an important state or national candidate, would the police arrest them? Would they blame them for a law and order issue and treat the governmental figure the way Allu is being treated? Is this fair? I understand the police are doing their duty, but don’t you think the system can be improved to prevent such incidents?”

He concluded his note with the words, “Bunny, we know and love you for the gentleman you are off-screen, my brother. Praying for you and for the life lost. May God bless all those affected by this tragedy and their families.”

Congress MP Karti Chidambaram reacted to Allu Arjun’s arrest. He said, “This is completely wrong. This kind of arrest is usually only for the media. This has to stop, due procedure has to be followed.”

He added, “I am glad that he has been given bail. That’s how it has to be in the Indian judicial system.

Kangana Ranaut, at Agenda Aajtak 2024, called the incident ‘unfortunate’. She said, “I am a very big supporter of Allu Arjun ji. Having said that, you have to set an example. He has got the bail. But just because we are high-profile people, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have any consequences. People’s lives are very precious. Be it smoking ads or a crowded theatre, I think they (the Pushpa 2 team) were present at the event. Everybody should have accountability.”

Pushpa 2 director Sukumar, who had remained silent on Allu Arjun’s arrest until now, was seen arriving at the actor’s house on Friday.

Rana Daggubati, a close friend of Allu Arjun, arrived at the actor’s house after the High Court granted him interim bail.

The High Court granted interim bail to Allu Arjun for four weeks from the date of receiving the order copy. Additionally, the actor has been directed to furnish a personal bond of Rs 50,000.

Rashmika Mandanna, who plays Srivalli in Pushpa: The Rule, wrote on X that she was disheartened to see how “everything was blamed on a single individual”.

“I can’t believe what I am seeing right now. The incident that happened was an unfortunate and deeply saddening incident. However, it is disheartening to see everything being blamed on a single individual. This situation is both unbelievable and heartbreaking (sic),” she posted on X.

The Telangana High Court granted interim bail to Allu Arjun, ruling in his favour and affirming his right to life and liberty, stating that he cannot be deprived of these fundamental rights.

The High Court expressed sympathy for the family of the deceased woman but questioned whether the blame could be fastened on the accused.

Allu Arjun has reached Hyderabad Central Jail. His lawyer has sought interim bail from the High Court.

YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy reacted to the Hyderabad stampede row and Allu Arjun’s arrest. He said, “The loss of a woman’s life in the stampede at Hyderabad’s Sandhya Theater is incomparable to the family.”

“At the same time, @alluarjun expressed his grief over this and said that he would stand by the family,” he continued.

He further added, “But how far is it fair to hold him directly responsible for this incident? Even though he was not involved in the stampede, it is not acceptable to frame criminal cases against Arjun and arrest him. I strongly condemn the arrest of Allu Arjun.”

Nana Patekar called Allu Arjun’s arrest justified, stating that if a mistake has been made, an arrest should follow.

In response to questions about the arrest of the Pushpa 2 actor, Patekar said, “If an incident happens because of me, then I should be arrested; if not, then there shouldn’t be an arrest.”

He further added, “If I am responsible for something, then I should be arrested; otherwise, I shouldn’t be.”

Allu Arjun might get interim bail from the High Court after being sent to 14-day custody by a lower court. The actor’s lawyer argued, “The remand report doesn’t say anything about the intention or knowledge of a possible death. This (arrest) is a travesty of my liberty. The lordship may grant interim bail.”

Allu Arjun’s lawyer, at the Telangana High Court, argued that the actor has been thoroughly cooperating in the investigation and that his custody is being asked only for sensationalism.

Allu Arjun’s lawyer argued at the Telengana High Court that the actor was on the first floor of the theatre when the stampede happened on the ground floor. He observed that neither Allu Arjun nor anybody thought that if they attended the screening, it could result in death.

Telugu actor Rahul Ramakrishna has defended Allu Arjun, calling his arrest a “tactic of the State to lay blame easily on soft targets like film celebrity.”

Allu Arjun’s lawyer, in the actor’s defence, said, “Allu Arjun has been arrested and remanded today [December 13]. I’m asking for a grant of interim bail. In earlier cases, the High Court was approached after the arrest.”

Allu Arjun’s lawyer stated that actors often attend the first show of their films. He argued that police instructions didn’t specify that an actor’s presence could result in fatalities.

The lawyer also referenced Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees promotion incident, where Khan was charged with culpable homicide following a stampede after he threw T-shirts at the crowd. Nani has reacted to Allu Arjun’s arrest. Saying that Arjun alone should not be held responsible, he wrote, “I wish the kind of enthusiasm government authorities and media show in anything related to people from cinema was also there for the regular citizens. We would have lived in a better society. That was an unfortunate incident and it was heart breaking. We should all learn from the disaster and be lot more careful here after and introduce measures to make sure this doesn’t happen again. We are all at fault here. One person is not responsible for this (sic).”

The State Counsel had argued that Allu Arjun was asked not to go for the screening.

The Telangana High Court hearing is regarding the actor’s petition to quash the FIR against him.

Allu Arjun has appealed to the High Court and the hearing is currently underway. The judge observed that the Public Prosecutor’s stance of quashing orders cannot be passed now, as the actor has already been arrested and sent for 14-day custody by a lower court.

After the Nampally Court handed over the 14-day judicial custody to Allu Arjun, the Pushpa 2 actor faced chances of being sent to jail.

The husband of Revathi, who died in the stampede, is now ready to take back the case. Speaking to the media, Revathi’s husband, Bhaskar said, “My son wanted to watch the movie so I took him to the Sandhya Theatre. There Allu Arjun came and that was not his fault. We are ready to withdraw the case. The police also didn’t inform me about arresting him. I saw Allu Arjun’s arrest news on my mobile when I was at the hospital. Allu Arjun has no relation with that incident and that he came to the theatre. I am ready to withdraw the case.”

It is being said that the Telangana Police will likely be seeking 14-day custody of the actor following the arrest.

Actor and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, who is also Allu Arjun’s uncle, rushed to his residence in Jubilee Hills after the arrest. Actor Chiranjeevi is already at Arjun’s house.

Telangana High Court Justice Juvvadi Sridevi will hear Allu Arjun’s matter at around 4 pm.

In one of the first videos following Allu Arjun’s arrest, the actor was seen sipping coffee and casually conversing with his wife, Sneha Reddy.

He spoke to the police officers, asking them to wait for 10 minutes so he could finish his coffee. He pointed out that they had even sent someone to follow him when he went to change clothes. Expressing his discomfort, he mentioned feeling uneasy when they stood near his bedroom.

Following Allu Arjun’s arrest, a photo from December 2 has emerged online showing that the Sandhya Theatre management had requested permission for a special screening of Pushpa 2 in Hyderabad. In a letter to the Assistant Commissioner of Police, they specifically requested a “police bandobast” (security arrangement) outside the theatre premises.

Actor Varun Dhawan, during the promotion of his film Baby John, commented on Allu Arjun’s arrest. He shared that safety protocols are essential everywhere, but an actor cannot take responsibility for everything. He said, “The incident that occurred is very tragic, and I would like to extend my condolences. However, blaming just one person for such incidents is wrong.”
