Ashworth leaves role as sporting director at Man Utd.
Club confirm departure after five months at Old Trafford
Manchester United have confirmed that sporting director Dan Ashworth has left the club “by mutual consent” after five months in the role.
Ashworth officially began work at Old Trafford on 1 July after a lengthy period of gardening leave at his former club Newcastle United. His remit was reportedly to oversee football performance and recruitment.
In a statement the club said: “Dan Ashworth will be leaving his role as Sporting Director of Manchester United by mutual agreement.
“We would like to thank Dan for his work and support during a transitional period for the club and wish him well for the future.”
During his time at Old Trafford, players including Leny Yoro, Joshua Zirkzee, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui were signed. He leaves Man Utd following a 3-2 home defeat by Nottingham Forest with the club currently 13th in the table.
Ashworth had previously worked at Newcastle, whom he joined in the summer of 2022 from Brighton & Hove Albion, where he had been since 2019, after moving from The FA.
