Who is the best FPL captain for Gameweek 15?
The Scout on the top armband alternatives to Salah, with Palmer, Haaland, Watkins and Fernandes among them
Mohamed Salah’s (£13.3m) relentless run of attacking returns is making it increasingly difficult to look beyond him for the captaincy in any given Gameweek in 2024/25 Fantasy Premier League.
However, Liverpool’s trip to Everton on Saturday has been postponed.
Cole Palmer (£11.0m) and Erling Haaland (£15.0m) are among the best armband alternatives to Salah.
Palmer has two goals, an assist and 21 points over the last two Gameweeks ahead of Chelsea’s trip to Tottenham Hotspur.
Manchester City’s Haaland, meanwhile, has seven goals and two assists in his last seven appearances for club and country, with the champions visiting Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Who has the worst defence?
By assessing the underlying numbers, managers can pinpoint the clubs with weaker defences and therefore target attackers from opposing sides.
Promoted trio Southampton, Ipswich Town and Leicester City continue to lead the way when it comes to conceding big chances, which are situations where the player is expected to score.
Saints have allowed their opponents a league-high 58 such opportunities, which lifts the prospects of goals for their hosts Aston Villa.
Ollie Watkins (£9.0m) is the likeliest Villa player to profit from those frailties, although his minutes have been managed recently, as evidenced by his withdrawal just after the hour-mark against Brentford in midweek.
AFC Bournemouth‘s Evanilson (£6.1m) has strong away form ahead of his visit to Ipswich, with two goals, three assists, 28 points and no blanks across his last three road trips.
Meanwhile, Leicester’s home encounter with Brighton & Hove Albion looks encouraging for Joao Pedro (£5.8m), who has two double-figure hauls over his last four appearances.
West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers‘ head-to-head on Monday evening could be good news for Jarrod Bowen (£7.4m) and Matheus Cunha (£7.1m).
Bowen’s 34 shots and 32 key passes are both team-leading totals for the Hammers, as are Cunha’s 39 shots and 23 key passes for Wolves.
Elsewhere, Man City’s poor defensive displays can help Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta (£7.2m) add to his total of four goals and an assist this season. Pep Guardiola’s side have conceded 43 big chances – that’s three more than Wolves, and the fifth-worst record in the division.
Clubs’ defensive stats 2024/25
Club | Goals conceded | Clean sheets | Big chances conceded |
---|---|---|---|
Southampton | 30 | 1 | 58 |
Ipswich | 25 | 1 | 54 |
Leicester | 28 | 1 | 53 |
West Ham | 27 | 3 | 47 |
Man City | 19 | 3 | 43 |
Wolves | 36 | 1 | 40 |
Crystal Palace | 18 | 3 | 38 |
Who is the most likely to score?
If you are willing to run the risk of rotation, Watkins‘ numbers show why he can also be a great option. He’s second only to Salah for big chances, with a total of 12 in Villa’s home matches this season.
Palmer’s team-mate Nicolas Jackson (£8.2m) is identical to Haaland in away matches, with nine big chances and one big chance created, and will surely start against Spurs after his midweek rest.
The underlying numbers also help to highlight the potential of Manchester United‘s Bruno Fernandes (£8.5m) and Brentford’s Yoane Wissa (£6.2m).
Both have been involved in nine big chances in home contests ahead of their fixtures against Nottingham Forest and Newcastle respectively.
Fernandes has scored both his goals this season, and supplied four of his five assists, across his previous four outings at Old Trafford, amassing 41 points.
Wissa has produced 50 points across his five starts at the Gtech Community Stadium, with his average of 10 points per start in home matches more than any other player in Fantasy.
