Vietnam gives death-row mogul chance at reprieve by paying $11bn
A death penalty appeal by Vietnamese tycoon Truong My Lan will be considered if she pays restitution, state media reported Tuesday, in a case of financial crime worth 3% of the country’s gross domestic product that is emblematic of Vietnam’s crackdown on graft.
Lan, a former real estate developer, was convicted in April of bribery, credit fraud and embezzlement.
