MTN Uganda Contributes UGX 20 Million to Support the Inaugural Gulu City Marathon
- MTN Uganda has contributed UGX 20 million to support the inaugural Gulu City Marathon, scheduled for 7th December 2024, under the theme “Running for Culture and Heritage.”
- Denis Harindimana, MTN Uganda’s Regional Marketing Coordinator, emphasized MTN’s commitment to empowering communities, celebrating culture, and supporting education in Northern Uganda.
- MTN has introduced a special 50% discount for the first 100 participants purchasing marathon kits via MTN MoMo at UGX 30,000 instead of UGX 60,000 using Merchant Code 735488.
- Fionah Latiga Lamaro of the Great North Run Company thanked MTN Uganda for its significant contribution to the event, which aims to promote Gulu’s heritage and raise funds for the Dero Kwan Initiative supporting education in the region.
Thursday 28th November 2024 – Gulu, Uganda; MTN Uganda has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering community development and cultural celebration by contributing UGX 20 million to support the inaugural Gulu City Marathon, scheduled to take place on Saturday, 7th December 2024.
The announcement was made today at a symbolic handover ceremony held at Jaca Gardens in Gulu City, where MTN Uganda’s Northern Region Marketing Coordinator, Denis Harindimana, MTN Uganda’s, handed over the contribution to representatives of the Great North Run Company, the marathon’s organizers.
Speaking at the event, Harindimana highlighted MTN Uganda’s dedication to initiatives that empower communities and celebrate cultural heritage.
“At MTN, we believe that together, we are unstoppable. The Gulu City Marathon is a perfect embodiment of this belief as it unites people from all walks of life to celebrate culture, promote tourism, and support education in the region. We are honored to partner with the Great North Run Company in this noble endeavor, and we look forward to seeing the transformative impact this event will have on Gulu and beyond.”
The Gulu City Marathon, themed “Running for Culture and Heritage,” is designed to showcase the cultural richness and historical significance of Gulu City while raising funds to support the Dero Kwan Initiative, a charitable body promoting education in Northern Uganda. Participants will take part in races across four distances—5km, 10km, 21km, and 42km—running through key landmarks such as the Gulu War Memorial and Gulu City Main Market.
In her remarks, Fionah Latiga Lamaro, one of the organizers from the Great North Run Company, expressed gratitude for MTN Uganda’s generous support.
“We are deeply grateful to MTN Uganda for coming on board as a major sponsor of this inaugural event. Their contribution is a significant boost to our efforts to ensure the success of this marathon, which will not only celebrate our heritage but also create opportunities for education in the region. As part of its sponsorship, MTN Uganda has also facilitated an exclusive offer for participants purchasing marathon kits. The kits, priced at UGX 60,000, can be purchased via MTN MoMo Merchant Code 735488. The first 100 customers to pay through MTN MoMo will enjoy a 50% discount, paying only UGX 30,000.
The Gulu City Marathon is set to become an annual event, taking place every second Saturday of December. MTN Uganda remains committed to supporting such initiatives that empower communities, celebrate diversity, and contribute to Uganda’s development.
