Liam Payne’s body returns to UK on board ‘most tracked plane in the world’

Liam Payne‘s body has finally touched down in the UK.

Weeks after the former One Direction star met his untimely death last month after a tragic fall from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His devastated father Geoff Payne had to endure an agonising wait in the South American nation before he could repatriate his son’s remains.

Geoff Payne returned to British soil with his son yesterday [6 November] landing at London Heathrow at 7:49am today [7 November]. Fans tracked the flight, which made it the most monitored aircraft globally.

Liam sadly passed away on October 16. Since then, an outpouring of grief from family, fans, and stars alike has been overwhelming. Following additional tests by local authorities, public prosecutor Andrés Madrea confirmed the release of Liam’s body to his family.

Argentine newspaper La Nacion revealed that Geoff was told by prosecution head Andres Madrea in a recent meeting that he could take Liam home stating: “All the documents are ready for the former One Direction singer to return to his homeland so a funeral can take place there next week.”, reports the Mirror.

“When Geoff Payne reached Argentina on October 18 he was told the repatriation process could take between four and five days, but because of the circumstances surrounding his son’s death things took longer than expected.”

Fans have already started paying tribute at St. Peter’s Collegiate Church in central Wolverhampton, leaving flowers and heartfelt notes by the Lady Wulfrun statue. Details of Liam’s funeral remain under wraps.

As news about his funeral surfaced, fans across social media platforms urged others to respect the family’s privacy and refrain from attending the funeral. Liam’s funeral is expected to be a private affair, allowing his loved ones the necessary time to grieve the loss of the One Direction star
