NATO must equip Ukraine to counter Russia’s North Korean reinforcements — Rutte
The deployment of North Korean forces in Russia makes NATO “even more determined and focused” on ensuring that Ukraine has everything it needs to fight, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte said on Nov. 4.
Speaking at a joint press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Rutte stated that NATO must continue its support for Ukraine, highlighting that Germany has already spent $28 billion on military aid for Ukraine—the second-largest contribution after the United States.
“And we must keep doing this,” the secretary said.
“We must ensure that our defense production grows. We must make sure Ukraine can win, that [Russian dictator Vladimir] Putin does not achieve his aims in Ukraine.”
He also noted that due to North Korea’s involvement in Russia’s war against Ukraine, NATO is deepening cooperation with Indo-Pacific partners — South Korea, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand — so the Alliance can do everything possible to secure this region.
