A$AP Rocky Tranmere Rovers takeover plan truth as Mark Palios breaks silence

Palios has unpacked the truth behind reports that Rihanna’s partner US rapper A$AP Rocky is planning a takeover bid of the League Two club.

Tranmere Rovers chairman Mark Palios has confirmed that Donald Trump’s former lawyer, Joe Tacopina, is interested in buying the club and says he would welcome A$AP Rocky being involved in the process. Palios indicated that the decision to include the US rapper in a prospective deal rests with Tacopina.

Reports over the weekend had linked the music artist, real name Rakim Myers, with a potential buy-out of the League Two club alongside 58-year-old Tacopina. Former Football Association CEO Palios, whose wife Nicola is vice-president of Rovers, is looking to sell the club after 10 years at the helm.

Palios outlined that a number of potential buyers have submitted their interest in buying the club, many of them agreeing Non-Disclosure Agreements [NDAs] as part of the process. Tacopina has meanwhile been a presence at Prenton Park.

“Joe Tacopina has come to the game. I’m under an NDA in terms of [takeover talks] with a number of people but Joe has come to the games, he’s not been afraid to put his presence out there,” Palios told talkSPORT.

“At the end of the day, whether he brings A$AP Rocky in or not is down to him. It’s the type of thing I think would enhance his consortium because they can add value to the commercial side. A$AP’s [partner] is, of course, Rihanna.

“Then you get into the whole aspect of it, which doesn’t sound like football but it actually is football because you have two potentials in a club. The football potential and – because of the pyramid we have in this country – that potential can be as much as you want to make of it if you want to fund it.

“So at the very top end you have got sovereign states funding it, and that’s one of the problems of the Premier League at the moment. The other potential you have got is the commercial potential of the club, which we have tried to show is actually quite significant.
