Beyond Zero partners with Embu County in furtherance of the well-being of women and girls.

EMBU COUNTY: AUGUST 30, 2024: The Beyond Zero Initiative, in collaboration with the County Government of Embu, has today launched a comprehensive cervical cancer program at Kairuri Health Centre in Manyatta Sub County. This initiative marks a critical milestone in the ongoing efforts to combat cervical cancer and enhance women’s health in the region.  

The signing of the joint agreement through a Memorandum of Understanding between the Beyond Zero and County Government of Embu brought together key stakeholders, including healthcare professionals and community leaders. The new program at Kairuri Health Centre will offer free cervical screening services to women, particularly targeting those in rural and underserved areas who often face barriers to accessing healthcare.

By bringing these services closer to the community, the initiative seeks to reduce the burden of cervical cancer and save lives.The program will also include educational campaigns to raise awareness about the importance of regular screening, and the availability of treatment options.

Addressing participants at the launch of the 3-year cervical cancer program, the Beyond Zero Technical Advisor Jane Kiragu noted that Beyond Zero has and continues to prioritize the well-being of women and children. “Maternal and child health, has consistently been at the heart of Beyond Zero’s area of focus since its inception in 2013″.

Our work is modelled  by complementing national and county health plans;  building partnerships and nurturing lasting solutions that foster inclusiveness” added Jane Kiragu

Cervical cancer is highly treatable when detected early, making screening and early intervention crucial.

The Beyond Zero Technical Advisor recognised and celebrated the outstanding accomplishments of healthcare workers including Community Health Promoters (CHPs) in delivering services within public health facilities, acknowledging their continued dedication and impact.

 

Embu County Deputy Governor Justus Kinyua Mugo who graced the launch, expressed his commitment to supporting the program and ensuring its success. “This program represents a significant advancement in our efforts to improve healthcare for women in Embu County. We are grateful to the Beyond Zero Initiative for their partnership and look forward to seeing the positive impact this program will have on our communities.”

The County Executive Committee (CEC) member for Health, Jamal Runyenje, underscored the importance of collaboration with Beyond Zero and other stakeholders, noting that it will empower healthcare providers through increased mentorship and sensitization, as well as conduct outreach programs.
