Justine Tusingwire: Mobile Money Operator Gunned Down in Cold-Blooded Robbery in Kaliro
A mobile money operator, Justine Tusingwire, lost her life after succumbing to gunshot wounds inflicted during a late-night robbery near her home in Uganda.
The attack occurred approximately 300 meters from her mobile money shop, where she and her husband, Rodgers Batambwire, were cornered by armed men dressed in dark hooded jumpers and black sporty trousers.
The suspects, who were also masked, approached the couple on an unregistered old motorcycle, which made their identification difficult.
According to Batambwire, the couple had just left their shop when they were ambushed. He described how the assailants opened fire without warning, shooting Tusingwire at close range.
Although she was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment, her injuries were too severe, and she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Despite several eyewitnesses, identifying the culprits in Tusingwire’s case has been challenging due to their concealed faces and lack of visible identification.
The local police have launched an investigation into the incident, but no arrests have been made so far. Authorities believe the attackers are part of a well-organized group that has carried out similar heists in other regions.
Police officials have urged mobile money operators to take extra precautions, such as closing their shops earlier and avoiding carrying large sums of money late at night.
