Jonam County Battles to 1-1 Draw with Padyere in Kopu P’Ubimo Tournament
Pakwach, Nebbi – Jonam County fought hard to secure a 1-1 draw against defending champions Padyere County on their home turf in the Kopu P’Ubimo inter-county football tournament. The match, held yesterday at Kopoi playground in Pakwach Town Council, was a test of resilience for both teams.
Coming off a strong 2-0 away victory over Okoro County, Jonam hoped to use their home advantage to claim another win. However, despite creating numerous chances in the first half, they struggled to find the back of the net. Jonam coach Simon Peter admitted his team needed better execution up front.
“We were committed to creating scoring opportunities, but our finishing didn’t deliver in the first half,” Peter said. That inability to capitalize allowed Padyere to gain the upper hand, taking a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
Jonam didn’t back down, though. In the 75th minute, Douglas Oyirwoth stepped up with a crucial equalizer, slotting in a well-placed shot from close range to level the score and send the home crowd into a frenzy.
Padyere head coach Gilbert Jakuma acknowledged the importance of securing a point on the road but emphasized that his team will need to be more calculated in their upcoming games. “Getting a draw in an away match against Jonam isn’t bad, but we have to be more focused when we face Okoro County, who have yet to score a point.”
Padyere’s next game will be this Saturday, September 28, 2024, when they host Okoro County at Luo ground in Nebbi Municipality. Jakuma’s squad will be eager to earn their first win of the tournament and avoid dropping further points.
The Kopu P’Ubimo inter-county football tournament is part of a larger series of sporting events organized by Ker Alur in collaboration with MTN Uganda. The 7th edition of the football competition is being held alongside the 3rd edition of bicycle races for Alur youth, all designed to celebrate the 14th coronation anniversary of His Majesty Phillip Olarker Rauni III.
