This has been revealed by the Minister of Gender Labor Social Development in charge of the elderly Dominic Mafwabi Gidudu while presenting a statement in parliament on the commemoration of the International Day of Older Persons scheduled 01 October 2024 that will be celebrated in Masaka City- Masaka District this weekend.
Minister Gidudu says this has been caused by the cut in SAGE funds amounting to 21bn shillings in the current financial year 2024/25.

According to SAGE program,an elderly person ages 65 year receives 25000 shillings every month.
According to chemistry of gender, there are 302,820 elder persons of which 144,406 are female and 114,414 are male.
In response, MPs appealed to the ministry of Gender to persuade the National Identification Registration Authority-NIIRA to capture the particulars of elder persons to ease their access to SAGE.
They have also pleaded with government to reinstate the budget for SAGE and also increase the money from 25,000 to 30,000/=
