Thanks to the Kursk operation, Ukraine managed to replenish its prisoner exchange fund by capturing more than 600 enemy servicemen and is now able to swap Ukrainian soldiers captured by Russia, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said on Monday.
“As for the Kursk operation, the exchange funds are being replenished and prisoner swaps are carried out. […] We conduct the swaps because we have someone to exchange for our guys who are in captivity. We have captured more than 600 people,” he told a press briefing in Zaporizhia.
The head of state also said the Kursk operation could impact the situation on the Pokrovsk and Toretsk axes, where “the escalation could slow down due to a decrease in the number of Russian troops.”
However, the situation in these directions is still tense as the main goal of the adversary is Donbas and then the occupation of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
“Anyway, we have been in touch with the Commander-in-Chief regarding the Pokrovsk axis for two days. No matter how difficult it is, there were no advances [of the Russian forces] during these two days,” Zelenskyy said.
