Everton join Southampton in race to sign West Brom star

Everton have taken an interest in West Bromwich Albion winger Tom Fellows.

This is according to TEAMtalk, who believe the Toffees are now in the mix to recruit the player.

Fellows, 21, has established himself as a real star for the Baggies in recent times and has impressed during the early stages of the season.

With the player shining, he could be the most sought-after player at The Hawthorns during the final days of the summer transfer window, with Albion only needing to resist interest in the player in the next 48 hours to be able to keep hold of him until at least the start of the January transfer window.

Having already lost some important first-teamers this summer, including Brandon Thomas-Asante, Connor Townsend and Okay Yokuslu, along with former loanee Mikey Johnston, Carlos Corberan will be keen to keep hold of an asset like Fellows, but it may not be an easy task.

The player has recently been the subject of interest from Southampton, who have had a £10m bid rejected for him.

Russell Martin’s side seemingly remain keen on strengthening their wing area, with Ben Brereton Diaz joining, but more depth and quality potentially needed in this area after losing David Brooks and Ryan Fraser since the end of last term.

The Saints may have the option to spend a decent amount following their promotion, but it remains to be seen whether they are willing to improve their offer before the end of the window.

With Fellows’ contract not expiring until the summer of 2027, Albion are in a very strong negotiating position at this stage.

The Toffees are now thought to be in the race for the player, with TEAMtalk reporting this interest.

Lyon’s Ernest Nuamah seems to be their top target at the moment, but Sean Dyche’s side reportedly view Fellows as a promising, cheaper alternative.

The winger has decided to go back to the club he spent the second half of last season on loan at.

With this in mind, a bid for the player can’t be ruled out. If they want to recruit him, they may have to fork out around £15m for his signature.

Albion are keen to retain the player, but they may cash in on him if an offer in that region is made before the summer window closes.

Fellows is a promising young player who will only get better with more experience under his belt.

And with his contract not expiring until 2027, there isn’t a need for Albion to sell him at this point.

In fact, they would probably secure much more for his signature next summer if he can perform well during the 2024/25 campaign.

As well as this, there isn’t much time left to go in the window and if he was sold, Albion may not have the opportunity to bring a replacement in before the deadline.

With this, they should wait until at least January to cash in on the winger. Even then, they may benefit from keeping hold of him for longer.
