Ukrainian activist and volunteer Serhii Sternenko has released new footage showing another successful strike on a Russian helicopter using a first-person view (FPV) drone.
The attack, carried out by soldiers from the M2 unit of the Security Service of Ukraine’s (SBU) Special Operations Center in the Kursk region, targeted a Russian Mi-8 helicopter.
The video reveals the moment the drone hit the Mi-8’s tail section with a powerful fragmentation warhead. The exact fate of the helicopter remains unclear, but Sternenko noted that it “ceased operations in the specified area.”
This strike comes after Ukrainian forces previously managed to damage a Mi-28 helicopter using a similar tactic. In that instance, the drone also struck the helicopter’s tail, leading to an emergency landing. The crew reportedly survived.
The use of FPV drones in these operations highlights the evolving tactics in the conflict, where Ukrainian forces are increasingly relying on unmanned systems to disrupt Russian military assets. These drones, equipped with high-explosive payloads, have proven to be an effective tool in targeting and disabling Russian helicopters, particularly in regions close to the front lines.
The success of these operations not only showcases the adaptability of Ukrainian forces but also underscores the growing importance of drone warfare in modern conflicts.
