Russian military sources have described a recent strike on a Russian convoy near the village of Oktyabrskoye in the Kursk region as one of the deadliest and most devastating attacks of the entire war.

According to reports circulating on Russian Telegram channels and by military bloggers, the strike resulted in the destruction of “3-4 companies—a whole battalion.”

The incident has sparked significant criticism within Russian circles, with some commentators, such as “Voenny Osvedomitel,” openly condemning the authorities for what they describe as a preventable disaster.

“Not only were the trucks left stationary with soldiers inside, but this turned the destruction of the convoy into a massacre,” wrote the “Voenny Osvedomitel” Telegram channel, which is closely connected with Russian military sources.

The channel further noted that the convoy was not moving at the time of the strike and was reportedly waiting for orders. The stationary nature of the convoy likely contributed to the high casualty rate, as the trucks became easy targets for the attacking forces.

The strike has been widely discussed on social media, with many pointing to the incident as a stark example of the vulnerabilities faced by Russian forces in the region. The scale of the destruction and the resulting criticism highlight the ongoing challenges for Russian military leadership in managing and protecting their forces in contested areas like Kursk.

The high-profile nature of the strike and the significant loss of life are likely to have far-reaching implications for the conduct of the war, both on the ground and in the public perception within Russia.
