EGYPT TOP GROUP C AFTER VICTORY OVER SPAIN

Egypt claimed the number one spot in Group C following a 2-1 win against Spain in their final Men’s Football group assignment at the Matmut Atlantique stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

Spain, who had already qualified for the quarter-finals, saw their 100% winning record come to an end against the popular North African outfit

The Spaniards dominated the opening exchanges of the match and often had Egypt back pedalling for large periods of the first-half. While Spain came agonisingly close to opening the scoring in and around the 20th minute mark, it was Egypt who broke the deadlock moments before the break.

Following a surging run down the right-hand flank, Zizo picked out Ibrahim Adel on the edge of the area before the attacker unleashed a curling shot that had the Spanish goalkeeper soundly beaten.

Adel doubled his nation’s advantage in the 59th minute after intercepting an under hit pass by Jon Pacheco across his backline before slotting the ball home with ease. While Samu Omorodion drew one back for Spain in the 90th minute, his goal proved to be too little too late as Egypt did enough to see out the game with maximum points in the bag.
