South Africa. Two young men, aged 19 and 20, went missing after being swept out to sea at Lagoon Beach, Milnerton, on Sunday afternoon while playing soccer.

National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) spokesperson Craig Lambinon reported that an extensive search operation was conducted for the missing individuals, but there are still no signs of them.

‘It appears that they were part of a local soccer team playing at the beach when they reportedly entered the surf and were swept out to sea by rip currents,’ said Lambinon.

The search effort included NSRI teams from Melkbosstrand, Table Bay, and Bakoven, along with Milnerton Surf lifeguards and the Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service. Together, they launched five rescue crafts.

‘The EMS rescue helicopter and a metro rescue squad drone team joined in the extensive air, sea, and shoreline search. NSRI rescue swimmers, lifeguards, and Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service rescue divers conducted sweeping line search efforts,’ Lambinon detailed.

Despite the extensive search, the two young men remain missing.

Police divers will continue the search.

‘Thoughts are with the family of the missing young men in this difficult time,’ Lambinon added.
