The NRM Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, expressed his admiration for the significant growth and development in Karamoja, a region once plagued by violence and poverty. During his visit to Moroto district on Tuesday, Todwong toured various businesses and factories employing many young people.

“We once knew Karamoja for violence, but thanks to the peace and stability brought by the NRM, the region is now home to numerous factories focused on mineral development, creating jobs for local communities,” SG Todwong stated.

He praised the remarkable growth of Moroto district, attributing it to the influx of investors in agriculture, mining, tourism, and hotel management. “This is the true fundamental change envisioned by President Museveni in 1986,” Todwong remarked as he concluded a three-day mobilization tour in Karamoja alongside the Director of Finance and Administration, Hajjat Medina Naham.

On Monday, over 18 Members of Parliament from the region pledged their support for President Yoweri Museveni as the NRM’s sole candidate in the 2026 elections, commending his role in restoring peace and integrating the northeastern sub-region into nation-building. “He has been like a parent to us, and endorsing him for 2026 and beyond is our way of showing gratitude,” the MPs conveyed to the Secretary General.

During their tour, Todwong and his team visited NRM supporters and elders in villages (Manyattas) to hear their concerns and assured them that their issues would be addressed through proper channels. The team also assessed the needs of government SEED schools by interacting with students and administrators.

At Moroto Central Market, Todwong engaged with traders, praising their contributions to improving living standards in Moroto and Karamoja. He announced a Sh10 million pledge on behalf of the party to the traders’ Sacco, aimed at helping traders secure better interest loans and expand their businesses.

In a show of support, the Moroto Municipal Council passed a resolution to donate an acre of land for the construction of NRM regional offices. Mayor Ismail Muhammed handed over the land to Todwong, highlighting the council’s appreciation for the ruling party’s leadership over the years. The Mayor assured that due process would be followed to expedite the land transfer and development.
