A fuel pump manager in the central district of Mubende trained the muzzle of an AK47 assault rifle on his own head and pulled the trigger to end his life today.

The Monday evening incident, sources and first respondents say, followed a distressful day for Allan Okello, who managed Oil Energy fuel station branch in Mubende.

The incident happened at around 7.30pm from the fuel pump located in Kisekende Ward.

According to residents, they heard gunshot in the office at the petrol station and rushed to the scene only to find Okello dead with blood trickling from his wounds.

“I was in a garage working when I heard a gunshot at the petrol station and when I reached here, I found the manager already dead inside the store,” said Gift Ssemwogerere, one of the first respondents.

Those who were acquainted with the deceased said he had a debt of Shs4 million that they suspect might have triggered the suspected suicide.

“We have been hearing rumours that the manager had made a shortage of Shs4 million and the whole day he wasn’t in his usual mood,” one of the acquaintances only identified as Ssebulime said.

Moses Twijusha, the chairperson of Kisekende Village, expressed his disappointment that the deceased had taken such a fatal decision instead of reaching out to area leaders.

“All the time he has spent, here he had never reported himself to the village leadership and even his workers because we tried as the LC to invite him but he refused,” Twijusha said.

He urged landlords to always register their tenants with the village leadership to enable possible attention and support.

Police from Mubende station recovered weapon that is suspected to have been used by Okello.

The body of the deceased was taken to Mubende Hospital for postmortem.

By press time, police had not released preliminary report or a statement about the incident.
