Kampala, (UG):- At least 145 legislators have appended the signature on the motion moved by Lwemiyaga County MP Hon Theodore Ssekikubo against the four embattled commissioners of Parliament implicated over corruption in the Shs1.7bn service award saga.
The implicated commissioners include former Leader of Opposition and Nyendo Mukungwe MP, Hon Mathias Mpuuga (Nyendo-Mukungwe, NUP), Solomon Silwany (Bukhooli central, NRM), Prossy Akampurira (Rubanda District Woman MP, NRM) and Esther Afoyochan (Zombo District Woman MP).
While addressing the media at parliament on Friday, Ssekikubo, flanked by colleagues Hon Odria Arion of Aringa South and Hon Rose Obigah of Terego said that the president’s State of the Nation Address on corruption exonerated them on their mission of cleansing Parliament of corruption.
“They did not spare all the workers MPs and some government ministers who decided to go silent on signing this motion,” said Ssekikubo, adding that they had received reports where some MPs are being convinced that the motion is not targeting the commissioners but rather the Speaker of Parliament.
“The truth is this motion is not targeting the Speaker Anita Among, even if she is the one that chaired the commission meeting we know that that benefited on the shs1.7 billion and these are the four commissioners of Parliament,” he stated.
Ssekikubo also noted that they have got evidence that the leadership of Parliament has started forging the minutes and Hansard of Parliament in relation to the controversial service award of shs1.7 billion but said they will expose all this rot at Parliament.
“We are totally ashamed as Parliament to see that some officials have started forging documents to give defense of their illegal allocation. You saw how one of the documents indicated that each of the commissioners was allocated shs400 and when they multiplied by three the total was shs1.2 billion. We are going to expose them, we have the evidence,” he stressed.
Although the collection of signatures from the MPs, about 512 in number, was supposed to end on Friday, by Monday evening (yesterday), the movers and seconders of the motion were short of the 177 required number for it to pass.
Among the MPs who appended their signatures based on the list released by Ssekikubo on Tuesday afternoon included; Zaake Francis, David Kabanda, Betty Nambooze and Yona Musinguzi of Ntungamo Municipality among others.
