The semi-finalists of the CAF African Schools Football Championship Continental Finals 2024 have officially been decided following another action-packed day of the ongoing competition in Zanzibar.
The Amaan Stadium is the centre of attention in Zanzibar, with plenty of African youth football competition on display between 21 – 24 May, with CAF’s Zonal Union champions vying for continental honours.
Tanzania, South Africa, Uganda and Morocco secured the last four places in the girls’ division of the competition as the race to a place in the finals shifts a gear up.
In the boys’ section, Tanzania joined their girls’ team in the last four alongside Benin, Guinea and Senegal to make up a mouth-watering line-up of fixtures for Day 3 of the tournament on Thursday, 23 May.
In the girls’ division, Tanzania edged Congo in the opening day’s fixture with a 1-0 victory, as South Africa did the same against The Gambia in the following tie.
Uganda overcame Togo 2-0 in a highly entertaining tie, before easing past The Gambia with the same scoreline in the last fixture of the day.
South Africa’s slim 1-0 win over The Gambia along with a goalless stalemate with Togo ensured that they secure a place in the next stage of the competition.
Morocco’s only match of the day saw them emerge 2-1 victors over Congo to conclude the four teams in the girls’ section.
The boys section saw Tanzania edge Uganda 1-0 in their only match of the day to seal a place in the last four.
Guinea’s 1-0 victory over South Africa along with a 3-0 walkover result against Libya saw them through.
Benin were the high-scorers of the day as a 4-1 win over Libya, was coupled with a narrow 1-0 win over South Africa to round up what was another exciting round of fixtures of the tournament.
